Undergraduate Programme Catalogue (with JUPAS Codes)
This page is a master list of undergraduate programmes at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) offered through JUPAS (the Joint University Programmes Admissions System), itemising each JS code (JS6xxx) alongside the full programme title. Programmes and codes are added, retired, merged and renamed from year to year — for example, the recent spate of new AI / data science / interdisciplinary programmes; all codes follow the JUPAS official HKU programme page※ for the year in question — this table is a snapshot taken at the 2025–26 admissions cycle. Compilation date: June 2026.
For admissions routes, entrance requirements and place policies, see Undergraduate Admissions; for tuition, see Tuition and Scholarships.
0. Notes
- JS codes are JUPAS's unique identifiers for each programme; all HKU programmes begin with "JS6" (e.g. JS6456 = Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, MBBS).
- This table is compiled from the JUPAS HKU programme list※, which at the time listed 57 programmes※ in total.
- Only JUPAS-run programmes are listed: programmes admitting through the non-JUPAS / international / mainland-China routes may not carry a JS code (they run on HKU's own admissions system) and are therefore excluded; some programmes admit through multiple routes simultaneously.
- The "subject grouping" below is a reading aid only, not HKU's official faculty structure; individual interdisciplinary / double-degree programmes may straddle faculty lines.

Verification result: counting the rows in each subject group above (4 + 5 + 5 + 1 + 14 + 5 + 7 + 5 + 3 + 8) gives 57 entries in total, which corresponds exactly, code for code, to the 57 listings on the JUPAS HKU programme page※ at the time (this round of re-checking compared every JS code individually and found no omissions or duplicates). An earlier version of this page mistakenly counted 53 — a tallying slip that has since been corrected. Code counts change from year to year; the official website for the relevant year is the final authority.
2. Why does a subject group span faculties? — the new School of Computing and Data Science and recent restructuring
Careful readers will notice that the "Faculty of Engineering / Computing & Data Science" section above collects programmes that used to sit in quite different places — computer engineering (JS6987) was a Faculty of Engineering programme, while actuarial science and statistical decision sciences are close cousins of Faculty of Science offerings. This is not a filing error on our part: HKU's faculty structure itself was reorganised in 2024.
According to the HKU official press release※, the University formally established the School of Computing and Data Science (CDS) with effect from 1 July 2024, merging the Department of Computer Science (formerly in the Faculty of Engineering) with the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science (formerly in the Faculty of Science) into a single new school-level unit covering computer science, data science, artificial intelligence, statistical decision sciences and actuarial science. Its first Dean is Professor Yi Ma, Chair Professor of Artificial Intelligence. The CDS School has admitted students independently since the 2025–26 academic year and, per the same press release, offers 8 undergraduate programmes.
This reorganisation directly affects the group boundaries in this table:
| Programme (JS Code) | Faculty before restructuring | Current status |
|---|---|---|
| Computing and Data Science (JS6999) | Faculty of Engineering | Moved to CDS School |
| Computing and Data Science Delta+ (JS6200, new for 2026; see next section) | — | Newly established under CDS School |
| BEng in Computer / Electrical / Electronic Engineering (JS6987) | Faculty of Engineering | Computer branch moved to CDS School |
| Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science (JS6729) | Faculty of Science | Moved to CDS School |
| Statistical Decision Sciences (JS6779) | Faculty of Science | Moved to CDS School |
| BA & BEng in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (JS6298) | Newly established under Faculty of Engineering | Moved to CDS School |
| Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Applied AI (JS6224) | Newly established under Faculty of Science | Moved to CDS School |
⚠ This table retains its "reading-friendly" grouping and keeps all of the above programmes under the single "Faculty of Engineering / Computing & Data Science" heading, rather than splitting them out into a separate CDS School column, so as not to disturb the way readers cross-reference the official programme page. But when checking a programme's actual faculty home, bear in mind that since July 2024 computer science and statistics/actuarial science no longer belong to the old Engineering and Science faculties respectively — they sit together in the single CDS School. For more on HKU's recent academic priorities and restructuring, see the tracking of CDS-related subject ratings in Subject Rankings.
3. Recently launched programmes: the AI / data science wave (2024–2026)
Over the past two admissions cycles, HKU has concentrated its new programme launches in AI, data science and interdisciplinary fields — the most active area of this table's "programmes are added and retired every year" caveat. Cross-checking the JUPAS official programme pages and press releases, at least the following new codes or structural adjustments appeared between 2024 and 2026:
| JS Code | Programme | Year / note on launch or adjustment |
|---|---|---|
| JS6822 | Bachelor of Journalism, Media and Artificial Intelligence | Admitting from 2025–26※; run by the Journalism and Media Studies Centre (JMSC); double-major structure (journalism/media AI + a second major such as finance, computer science or psychology); requires at least one summer internship at a media organisation |
| JS6200 | Computing and Data Science (Delta+) | New from the 2026 admissions cycle※; content mirrors JS6999 but adds "cross-site (dual-Delta) immersive learning" — the final 18 months can be spent at HKU's Shanghai teaching and research base, including a seven-month industry internship |
| JS6626 | MBBS (Distinguished MedScholar) | This study track already existed, but received its own standalone JUPAS code for the first time in the 2026 admissions cycle※, listed separately from the regular MBBS (JS6456) |
| JS6224 | Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Applied Artificial Intelligence | Launched in recent years; a full student handbook was already published by the 2025–26 academic year; led by the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science (now part of the CDS School) |
| JS6298 | BA & BEng in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science | Launched in recent years; an interdisciplinary double-degree structure across arts, science and engineering under the CDS School |
| JS6248 | Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Financial Technology | Launched in recent years; responds to demand for fintech talent; sits at the intersection of the Faculty of Business and Economics and the science/engineering side |
Trend in short: the six new or adjusted codes above cluster around artificial intelligence, data science and interdisciplinary combinations, consistent with HKU's strategy of founding the CDS School in 2024 and pouring resources into AI talent development. This does not mean the University's programme count has grown by a net six — some codes represent restructuring of existing programmes (JS6626, for instance, is simply a separate code carved out of the MBBS; its place quota may not be new). The net annual increase or decrease is whatever the JUPAS official list※ says for the relevant year. For the historical background of how the "3+3+4" reform made room for four-year degrees and set off the subsequent expansion of interdisciplinary programmes, see "The 3+3+4 Reform and the 2012 Double Cohort".
4. Three programme structures: single honours / interdisciplinary BASc / double degree
The 57 JS codes in this table fall roughly into three types by degree structure. Knowing which type you are applying to helps clarify whether you are choosing a department or a discipline at entry:
- Single honours: you are admitted to a fixed department or discipline. Examples: JS6339 BEng in Mechanical Engineering, JS6482 Bachelor of Chinese Medicine. Most medicine, law and nursing programmes are of this type, and switching departments after entry is comparatively difficult.
- Interdisciplinary / broad-degree Bachelor of Arts and Sciences (BASc etc.): you enter under a broad degree title (e.g. JS6054 Bachelor of Arts, JS6901 Bachelor of Science, JS6717 Bachelor of Social Sciences), then declare a major from the end of Year 1 according to faculty rules; this is the more flexible route. The recently launched JS6224 BASc in Applied AI, JS6236 BASc in Design+, JS6250 BASc in Global Health and Development also belong here — they carry the "Arts and Sciences" name but are in substance interdisciplinary major packages.
- Double degree: two degrees awarded together, usually requiring more than four years of study. Examples from the Faculty of Law: JS6078 BA and LLB, JS6808 BBA(Law) and LLB, JS6858 BSc and LLB; and from the Faculty of Education, the JS6066/JS6080 language-education double degrees. Entry thresholds and workload for double-degree programmes are generally higher than for the corresponding single-degree versions.
A few special joint / articulation arrangements do not fit neatly into any of the three types — for example, jointly-run schemes with overseas universities in which students spend part of their studies at HKU and part at the partner institution (such as the Faculty of Engineering's joint scheme with the University of Cambridge), and the double degree in economics/finance run jointly by HKU and Peking University. The JUPAS codes and application details for these schemes are covered in "The Doors Beyond JUPAS", under the section on other special joint-admissions routes.
5. Admission-score snapshot for the "sacred subjects"
This table lists only programme names and codes, not admission scores — programme-by-programme JUPAS admission scores, quartiles and interview arrangements are covered in a dedicated article on the University's most hotly contested programmes (colloquially the "sacred subjects", 神科). For cross-reference:
| Programme (JS Code) | Competitiveness at a glance |
|---|---|
| Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery MBBS (JS6456) | One of the most popular programmes in Hong Kong; roughly 295 places; 2024 entry median score 45 (best-six-subjects weighted); selective interview |
| Bachelor of Dental Surgery BDS (JS6107) | Few places, fierce competition; 2024 entry median score 48; selective interview |
| BBA(IBGM) International Business and Global Management (JS6896) | Highest-scoring business programme; roughly 30–35 places; 2024 entry median score 53 |
| Bachelor of Laws LLB (JS6406) | The Faculty of Law's flagship programme; consistently among the highest admission scores; selective interview |
These scores come from HKU's official 2024 admissions data; they fluctuate year to year, and each programme has its own specified elective-subject requirements. For full score ranges, interview formats and the two alternative admissions routes of SNDAS and SPN, see "The Interview Hurdle and the 'Sacred Subjects'".
6. A few verification disciplines
- Codes change: JUPAS codes can be added, discontinued or merged in any year (HKU's recent focus has been new AI / data science / interdisciplinary double-degree programmes). Always check the current JUPAS official site※ before applying — do not fill in your choices on the strength of an old code.
- Same name, different route: for JUPAS-run programmes, the non-JUPAS / international / mainland-China routes may not use the same code (those applications run on HKU's own system), so a JS code cannot be used to map a non-local application.
- Programme-specific requirements override the minimum line: each JS code carries its own specified electives, score weighting and interview requirements — see the individual programme pages and HKU's annual "Admissions Information".
- Faculty attribution follows the department, not this table's subject-group columns: as explained in Section 2, the "subject groups" here are a reading aid. Since the CDS School was established in 2024, computer science, data science, statistics and actuarial science programmes have straddled the old Engineering/Science faculty boundaries. To verify a programme's actual faculty home, consult its official programme page — do not rely on this table's column headings as evidence of faculty affiliation.
